Kamo'o'ili'ili Cemetery Bell Memorial

Kawaiaha'o Church Cemetery - 09/27/2008

This webpage is dedicated to all those 'ohana's whose loved ones were moved from Kamo'o'ili'ili Church Cemetery in the 1960's and re-interred at their new resting place at Kawaiaha'o Church Cemetery at the site marked by the old Kamo'o'ili'ili Church bell.  Prior to the move, Kawaiaha'o Church sent notices of the pending re-location of remains to those 'ohana's who had a record of burial at Kamo'o'ili'ili Church Cemetery.  Many notices went unanswered.

Not unlike many of those 'ohana's who never received notices for various reasons, so that they could take possession of remains or acknowledge the move of their loved ones remains to Kawaiaha'o Church, my 'ohana never knew where my Great-Grandmother's (Emma Kai Kealawaiole) remains were moved.  We now know, based on information from her Death Certificate, and with the assistance of Kawaiaha'o Church Trustees that her remains are at the plot marked by the Kamo'o'ili'ili Church bell.

Those who answered the notices sent out by Kawaiaha'o Church are commemorated by name on the new Kamo'o'ili'ili Church Bell Memorial plaque.  Many 'ohana's loved ones are not listed on the plaque.  This webpage also serves to commemorate all 'ohana's whose loved ones are interred at the location of the Kamo'o'ili'ili Church bell at Kawaiaha'o Church Cemetery, but not listed on the memorial plaque.

All images of the memorial on this webpage are linked to a larger version.  We have added a close up image of the plaque of the names and/or 'ohanas commemorated on the memorial plaque for those interested, but more importantly, those in the Islands and abroad conducting genealogy research on their ancestors whose final resting place may have been at the Kamo'o'ili'ili Church Cemetery.  Please move cursor over the image and click for a larger, detailed image.  A new window will open.  You may need to click on the image to make it larger, as well.
