Introduction

Aloha and welcome to the Gasper-Kealawaiole website.  This website is dedicated to "Papa" Teo Gasper and Grandma Emma Kai Kealawaiole.  For many of us, Papa and Grandma Emma are our "common ancestors."  The work that has gone into the compilation of data and historical documents has been a combined effort of members of our 'ohana.  It has truly been a labor of love.

Throughout this website you will see the word "'ohana" used frequently.  Though the literal translation of this word may be defined as "family", this word means so much more.  The word "family" implies that there is a "blood" or genetic relation.

Though some in our 'ohana may not share "blood" relation, we do share a relation based on love and aloha.  "Blood", as it pertains to a family is a technical and legal term.  Papa Gasper taught all of us, through his children, that the 'ohana will always be built on a foundation of love and aloha, not solely "blood" relation.

Papa, the "tree" continues to grow and is full with many branches.  We, your descendants, will continue to care for this tree, so that we may continue to enjoy the comfort and protection it provides.  For this we are grateful.

About Our Site

This website was created with the hope that our 'ohana (family) at home and abroad, as well as our visitors, would have a "meeting place" to connect, communicate and share their Filipino and Hawaiian heritage.

In doing so, our family shares its family history and surnames on the Our Heritage pages.  We also share photos of our kupuna and family in the Ohana Photo Album.  A Research Links page was added to provide resources for those beginning or continuing their genealogy research.

Chili's Page is a page on this site dedicated to the memory of our family member, Chili Kealawaiole, who was a patient "inmate" at the Leprosarium in Kalaupapa on the island of Molokai.  This section has been updated to include a Kalaupapa Photo Journal of a recent return visit to Kalaupapa in January of 2005.

Chili's Page is also dedicated to the memory of those who dedicated their lives to relieve the suffering of victims of leprosy (Hansens Disease) at Kalaupapa.

Please take a moment to sign our Guest Book to let us know you stopped by.
